Welcome to BRS120.ORG!

BRS120.ORG is a website hosted by members of BRS Local #120, located in Boston, MA.  BRS Local #120 consists of approximately 150 hard working individuals providing railway signal service and maintenance for the MBTA Commuter Railroad.  Through hard work and dedication we are constantly improving railway safety, and on-time train performance.

Members of BRS Local #120 (called "Signalmen", or "Signal Maintainers")  inspect and maintain the equipment on a regular schedule, using special test equipment to check mechanical devices and the sophisticated electrical and electronic devices used in modern signal systems. If there is a problem with the signal system, trains can be delayed and safety of the railroad operation will be affected. When that happens, Signalmen are called on to make repairs and restore safe operation of the railroad. Railroads operate 24 hours every day, so Signalmen are called on to work at all hours of the day and night, in all kinds of weather.

Currently the MBTA Commuter Railroad is operated under contract by the Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad Company (MBCR) a joint partnership of Veolia Transportation, Bombardier Transportation and Alternate Concepts, Inc.
